Details of the Digital E-Visas Process:

From 2025, the UK government will transform from physical documentation, including Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) and Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs), to digital procedure.

 

Immigrants, including students, workers, and dependents, are issued in BRP procedure as proof of immigration status. These BRP cards have a chip installed to authorize the person’s identity through biometrics such as facial photographs and fingerprints.

 

This digital approach is similar to Australia, where biometrics is collected without physical cards or passport. Instead, the applicant receives an E-visa card that can be verified online as digital proof of immigration status.

 

All the BRPs issued until now will expire on December 31, 2024. Applicants won’t require a BRP from January 1, 2025. They will be able to prove their immigration status without a BRP.

 

Individuals whose immigration status is valid till December 21, 2024, and who are permanent residents with indefinite leave to remain don’t need to take any action, as their immigration status will be unaffected.
