As for highly skilled workers, Sweden needs more sectors such as healthcare, education, IT, engineering and construction, and law enforcement. The most in-demand jobs are in these sectors, which include:

 

  • Midwives
  • Civil engineers
  • System analysts and IT architects
  • Software and system developers
  • Police officers
  • Nursing assistants
  • Specialist nurses
  • Doctors
  • Primary school teachers
  • Special needs teachers and educators

 

Occupation with other skill levels with a shortage of skilled workers includes construction and skilled trades, manufacturing and machine operations, agriculture, transportation, and healthcare. The most in-demand occupations are related to these sectors such as:

 

  • Healthcare assistants
  • Mobile farm and forestry plant operators
  • Bus and tram drivers
  • Plumbers and pipefitters
  • Agricultural and industrial machinery mechanics and repairers
  • Manufacturing machine operators
  • Construction workers
  • Carpenters and Joiners
  • Motor vehicle mechanics and repairers
  • Welders

 

Workers who are not required in Sweden:

Workers from these occupations might have a higher chance of securing a Swedish work visa.

 

On the other hand, occupations that have high competition as they have a pretty good amount of workers in respective fields:

 

  • Bankers
  • Real estate agents
  • Photographers
  • Graphic designers
  • Journalists
  • Shop assistants
  • Receptionists
  • Telephone operators

 

As for the location, most job openings in Sweden are in Stockholm. West Sweden stands second in the number of job vacancies, whereas the region of Central Norrland has the lowest number of job openings.

Who needs a visa to work in Sweden?

Citizens of the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland don’t need a visa to work in Sweden. Individuals from other countries must apply for a work visa to work in a Swedish country.

 

However, to obtain a Swedish work visa, individuals must have a job offer/contract, and the offered salary should be at least €1220 per month. The respective employer must provide health, life, employment and pension insurance.
