Sydney students temporarily occupied DIBP office building in CBD protesting in support of Manus refugees. They later also stormed the offices of Tanya Plibersek the Labor frontbencher. These students demanded that government brings back refugees to Australia who are stuck at Manus Island. The Manus Island detention center funded by the government has been closed. However, around 600 refugees and asylum seekers are still on the site. They are not having even basic facilities such as food, water or electricity. These refugees have declined to shift to alternative community accommodations. The reason is that they are afraid of being attacked by locals, as quoted by the SBS. Sydney students demanded that the government must act in haste. It must immediately bring back the former detainees to Australia, they demanded. The protesting students were later evicted by the immigration officers. The protesting students in Sydney later marched to nearby Surry hills. They continued their protest at the office of Tanya Plibersek federal deputy Opposition leader. One of the protesting students Alice said that the detention centers were started by the Labor party. These had failed historically, she added. The Labor party is just playing scapegoat by shifting responsibility said, Alice. It does not have any firm policy to shut down the detention centers, she explained. They are unfair in pretending that they owe no responsibility, added the student. We are really concerned about the condition at Manus Island said Ms. Plibersek. This is completely unacceptable. The asylum seekers and refugees are staying there from a long time, said the deputy Opposition leader.
