The prevalence of COVID-19 does not seem to dissipate the interest of international travelers to visit European nations on a tourist visa.

That is why it is anticipated that once the borderless zone opens, there will be a surge in tourism to the different European nations.

For 3-months now, non-EU and EEA nationals were not treated eligible for entry into the Schengen area. The ban is in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

31 European countries that are either in the EU, the EEA, or both, have let each other’s citizens enter for essential purposes. The essential purposes include medical workers and cross border workers.

As the opening of borders among European countries is progressing in June 2020, many travelers are hopeful of borders opening for international travel by the end of July 2020.

The reopening of the Schengen area for third countries is also soon to materialize. This travel will be for non-essential purposes.

A survey revealed that most of the travelers are planning to take a trip to the Schengen area within 3 weeks of the reopening of the border. Most of these trips will be for tourism purposes.

France and Germany top the list of Schengen nations that travelers plan to visit.

Among the travelers, the majority won’t need a visa to enter the Schengen area. This is because they are nationals of any of the 62 nations that come under the Schengen visa-free regime.

Other countries where travelers want to tour post border reopening include:

  • Switzerland
  • Austria
  • Spain
  • Italy
  • The Netherlands

It’s interesting to note that over half the travelers who will visit Europe this year will do so for tourism purposes. The next best reason will be business.

There is a major reason for the travelers opting to tour to Europe even amidst the lingering COVID-19 problem. That reason is that these travelers do not want to waste their reservations by canceling them. They even think that before a second wave could arise, these travelers want to utilize their reservations.

EU will be classifying third countries according to their current COVID-19 related situation to gradually let these countries in.
