There’s a possibility for suspension of cross-border train services between Switzerland and Italy in the week to come. This is owing to the dearth of staff to perform the essential COVID-19 safety checks.

The rising rate of COVID-19 cases with the second wave of the pandemic has made Italian authorities take new safety measures for those arriving on a travel visa. This includes keeping trains running with restrictions as it was during the first wave.
Though Italy didn’t ban train travel altogether, the manpower needed to implement the preventive measures for COVID-19 fell short.
Banning ski-breaks and restricting travel between areas and municipalities over the coming festive season of Christmas and New Year is in the plans of Italy.
