The UK government plans to increase the salaries of foreign workers to £30,000. The plan will be official by this upcoming week. This on-going effort also aims to reduce the number of immigrants to migrate to UK.
Workers outside the shortage occupation list require a minimum wage of £26,200 to take up jobs in the UK which is below £33,000. If initiated, this plan will address the immigration-level program related to skilled workers.
The UK government previously promised to control migration. But later, when this week's report arrived, the net migration plan for the year's end revealed a count of 500,000. The surge was increased by emigration, the return of overseas students, and a decline in Ukrainian refugees and Hong Kongers.
After reviewing the report, the government planned better action to establish a migration system that aligns with public expectations. So, the government will agree to raise the salary threshold for skilled workers to approximately the median wage of £33,000.
If the salary threshold is accepted, it will also impact private businesses and care workers, also included in the shortage occupation list.
Though the decision has yet to proceed, there is an on-going debate about how it will impact various sectors and the overall net migration of the UK.
