• From Jan 1st, 2024, the U.S. government adjusted the interview waiver system for visit and study visas.
• Students may qualify for a visa interview waiver if they are issued a non-immigrant visa (excluding a B visa) and are applying within 48 months of the last visa's expiration.
• To be eligible for this program, the applicant must meet certain criteria.
• The interview waiver program is not available for first-time applicants.

Details of the interview waiver program:

The U.S. Department of State has adjusted the interview waiver system for non-immigrant applicants. The changes will be effective from Jan 1st, 2024, and it will updated by the end of December. The waiver will stay till further notice, which will be subjected to review.

 

Non-immigrants who will be seeking student visas will be qualified for the interview waiver program only if:

 

• Previously issued for a non-immigrant visa (excluding a B visa)
• Applying within 48 months of the last visa expiration

Eligibility to get interview waiver program:

To be eligible for the interview waiver, the applicant must be from this specific criteria list:

 

• Apply from their country of nationality or residence.
• Never been on a visa refusal list.
• Have eligibility to fulfill the visa criteria

 

In late 2021, the U.S. Department of State initially granted an interview waiver for some non-immigrants who had already been issued visas. Later in 2023, this system will be implemented more prominently.

 

As per the recent changes, the interview waiver will not apply to first-time applicants from U.S. visa-waiver countries.

 

Depending on the local condition, the consular officer might require an in-person interview.
