What is an eTA?

An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is a travel document or ]an entry requirement required for travelers coming to Canada from visa-exempt countries.
An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for foreign nationals flying to or transiting through Canada.
Only travelers from countries without a visa to visit Canada require an eTA, and only if they are traveling by air. If an individual is from a visa-exempt country visiting Canada by land, don’t need an eTA.
Individuals with Canadian visas, Canadian permanent residence, or Canadian citizenship don’t need an eTA. The eTA is valid for up to five years or until the passport expires.

Who need an eTA to travel in Canada?

•    Lawful Permanent Residents and Canadian Citizens: Lawful Permanent Residents of Canada don’t need a Canada eTA. Instead, an individual will need a valid Permanent Resident Card (PR Card) or Permanent Resident Travel Document to travel to Canada.
•    Visa-exempt foreign nationals will need an eTA to fly to or transit rather than a visa to travel to Canada.

Who doesn’t need an eTA?

•    Canadian citizens who have dual citizenship need to have a valid Canadian Passport. A Canadian passport is enough. They don’t need an eTA.
•    American Canadians can travel with a valid Canadian or U.S. passport.
Who is exempt from eTA?
•    U.S. citizens are exempt from eTA.
•    Lawful permanent residents of the U.S. are free from eTA.

How do you apply for an eTA to visit Canada?

eTA has a simple process to proceed further with. Most of the eTA applicants get their approval via email within minutes. Although some request takes time to process. An eTA costs CAD 7. An individual can apply for one person at a time and apply for an eTA.

Which One is Better - Canada ETA or Visa?

Depending on the need, an individual can choose an ETA or Visa. ETA is the best option for people from countries that are visa-exempt and planning to visit Canada for a short period. The ETA allows multiple short stays in Canada for up to five years.
Individuals planning to work, study, or immigrate to Canada can choose a visa. The visa application process is generally more complex and takes more time, but it allows for a longer stay in Canada.
