Do you want to know which are the fastest-growing job sectors and occupations in the US and Canada? Knowing them could be a motivation for you to work in Canada or the US if you are qualified and skilled in any of these occupations.

In general, healthcare, IT, and green energy were the major areas where jobs registered the fastest growth in recent years. The in-demand jobs in these sectors in Canada and the US have also attracted many international workers to immigrate to these countries.

It’s remarkable that these jobs have grown in demand and employment even in hard times like that of the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are the 10 fastest-growing jobs in North America (including the US and Canada). This list has been made by the Visual Capitalist website. They have used the figures from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

  • Wind turbine service technicians
  • Solar photovoltaic installers
  • Nurse practitioners
  • Statisticians
  • Information security analysts
  • Physical therapist assistants
  • Home health and personal care aides
  • Data scientists and mathematical science occupations
  • Medical and health services managers
  • Physician assistants

Among the pathways for highly skilled foreign workers to come and work in Canada along with permanent residency is the Global Talent Stream. Residence visas are issued within 2 weeks under this stream.

The following jobs in the green sector are expected to gain a high rate of growth in the time to come.

  • Wind turbine service technician – Median annual wage USD 56,230
  • Solar panel installers – Median annual salary USD 46,470

These jobs are available in industries like solar panels that are still very young in the industry. Any rapid growth registered by this sector is on a very small existing base of jobs that are available.

So, that takes the focus to other established industries showing promising growth like healthcare. The healthcare industry is projected to grow at a rate of 32.6%. This translates to this sector becoming the 7th fastest-growing job sector and 1.3 million additional jobs in the US over the next decade.

However, the progress on the salary front needn’t be so impressive.

In Canada, healthcare jobs like nurses are going to continue growing phenomenally. Nursing jobs are expected to register a growth of 52.2% over the next 10 years. They will get a median annual wage of USD 111,680.

Medical & health service manager jobs are another line of occupations that are expected to grow 32.5% with a median annual wage of USD 104,280.

Demand for physician assistants is expected to grow by 31% with a median annual wage of USD 115,390. Demand for physical therapy assistants is expected to grow by 35.4% in the next 10 years with a median annual wage of USD 59,770.

IT analyst jobs are expected to grow by 33.3% in the US with a median annual wage of USD 103,590. Statisticians are expected to grow in demand by 35.4% with a median wage of USD 92,270.
