Western Australia has announced plans of increasing the intake of overseas students. A new graduate stream will be available and a new Graduate Skilled Migration List will be introduced. The new graduate stream will give students with high degrees- PhD, Masters and other higher degrees a path to Australia Skilled Migration. This move is aimed to attract higher numbers of high-quality overseas students to enhance the quality of education market of Western Australia. The Skilled Migration Occupation List of the state which is currently in place will not be affected. Under the State Nominated Migration Program, priority would be given to the best students graduating from Western Australian Universities. These students would be crucial to strengthening the future workforce. They would be instrumental in maintaining the competitive edge of Western Australian Universities in knowledge creation and technological development. The McGowan Government has planned to develop a comprehensive and detailed International Education strategy. They have also committed $2 million to the same, as per the Australia Magazine. The Premier of Western Australia, Mark McGowan has said that they are committed to increasing the share of Western Australia’s international education market.
