IRCC Adds 1250 Employees to Speed Up Canada Immigration

Abstract: IRCC to add more employees to accelerate the process of Canada immigration.

The immigration minister of Canada, Sean Fraser, said that IRCC or Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada is employing 1,250 officials to address the backlog of applications and reduce processing time.

By hiring more employees, they hope to reduce the application processing time by 80%.

Changes in Policies for Migrants in Canada

All Express Entry draws were resumed in July, this year.

A temporary policy was introduced to enable international graduates the opportunity to stay longer in Canada by applying for an extension on their visas. They must be having a visa that is about to expire.

The extension of a temporary policy will also facilitate immigrants coming to Canada as visitors to work through an employer-specific work permit without leaving Canada till February-end 2023.

The policy changes benefit those who had applied for Canada PR or permanent residency through the TR2PR or temporary resident to permanent resident pathway last year.

Additional Monetary Support to IRCC Employees

The recent hirings come after the 85 million USD monetary aid for IRCC in its Economic and Fiscal Update 2021. The aid is dedicated to reducing the waiting time and returning to the pre-pandemic service standards.

By July this year, Canada has welcomed approximately 275,000 permanent residents. The number of work permits being issued has also increased exponentially.  The IRCC had issued approximately 199,000 work permits.

Increased Number of Canadian Study Permits

In 2021, the IRCC had issued approximately 560,000 study permits, more than that in 2019 by 31%, according to the Canadian immigration department. IRCC has outpaced the figure of 2022, with an additional 360,000 study permits issued between January 1 and July 31, 2022.

The number of study permits issued in 2021 was around 306,000. More and more student are pting to study in Canada.
