In a recent update, the US State Department announced a hike in the processing fee for B1 and B2 visas, exchange visitor visas, US student visas, and other non-immigrant visa (NIV) categories. However, the consular services cost will remain the same, i.e., the waiver of the 2-year residency required cost for a few exchange visitors.
The US state department stated, “Non-immigrant visa fees are decided on the basis of the actual cost of delivering NIV services and are determined by conducting a thorough study of the cost of all such services.”
The fee hike will be applicable to the following visa categories:
Visa Category |
Current Visa Processing Cost | Updated Cost Applicable w.e.f May 30, 2023 |
USA B1 and B2 Visa |
$160 | $185 |
Non-immigrant Exchange Visitor Visa | $160 |
$185 |
Student Visa | $160 |

$190 | $205 |
Treaty trader (E1), investor (E2), and applicant (E3) under specialty occupation | $205 |
$315 |
*Please note that the processing cost for most of the US non-petition based visa categories was updated in the year 2012, and a few other costs were updated in the year 2014.
